the visible category | 2013

the visible category was a three month long photographic research project which researches the way people with Down Syndrome are represented and shown in global massmedia such as newspapers, internet and television. By categorizing all these images it tends to provide different angles of looking. the visible category can be seen as a platform in which a body of images, and their original context/source, of people with Down Syndrome can be found and explored. Alongside the archival function the images are researched in a visual and more artistic way by editing and comparing (visual sociology). Hence a new mode of looking is being challenged and a more experimental dealing with this type of found photography is obtained.
